SIMA 2017: Trio of Amazone highlights
The biggest news on Amazone’s stand was the new 3.0m Cataya power/harrow grain only drill combination. New from the ground up, the newcomer pairs with the firm’s new 01 Series rotary harrows and cultivators. The levelling boards are guided by the packer roller and not the power harrow, which says Amazone, allows the tines to be lowered at the headland to take out wheelings, without affecting the drilling depth.
The Cataya features certain technologies from the company’s larger drills, such as half-width section control, automatic headland shut-off and a new electrically-driven metering system. With a maximum seed tank capacity of 1,270 litres, the Cataya will be at Cereals, with availability following a couple of months later.
The German company used the French show to plug the gap between the existing 6.0m and 12.0m Catros+ compact disc harrows with new 7.0m, 8.0m and 9.0m models. Plus, there is a new lightweight 2.5m to 4.0m rigid range for smaller tractors. Bringing the total to 17 different models, most are offered with a choice of 460mm smooth or 510mm serrated discs. The UK debut will be at Cereals, and the new 7.0m, 8.0m and 9.0m versions will be available this autumn.
Finally, HeightSelect is a new feature of the firm’s AmaSelect individual nozzle switching system. Previously, operators were required to alter boom height manually with a particular nozzle. Not anymore, because newly-developed software allows HeightSelect to automatically match the distance between the sprayer boom and crop depending on nozzle spacing and type.
