Four wheels on my slurry tanker
Joskin’s Tetrax2 16000S (16,000-litre) slurry tanker empties 32,000-litre road-going vehicles - quite common in some parts of Europe - in two fills.
Like the rest of the range, the newcomer is fitted with four equal-size tyres (max. size 650/85R38) to uniformly distribute most of the tanker’s weight. Each pair of wheels are mounted to a central axis that provides a horizontal swinging movement, allowing them to adapt to ground contours.
The four-wheel design makes no difference to the height of the tanker, but the use of larger 650mm-wide tyres sees its width increase to 3.2m. This not only prevents the side walls of the four tyres from touching, but also helps to increase stability.
